Nsolv is a Canadian, clean-tech energy company devoted to solving the operational and environmental problems of heavy oil extraction. The company has patented warm solvent technology for in-situ projects that requires zero water and far less energy compared to steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD). This means a dramatically reduced environmental footprint, without compromising project economics. In fact, Nsolv delivers greater rates of return by producing lighter oil and cutting project costs. Founded by Dr. John Nenniger in 2003, Nsolv secured financial support from Hatch Ltd. in 2004 and Enbridge’s technology fund in 2006. As equity partners, Hatch and Enbridge became key influencers in Nsolv’s growth and development. Additional financial support was provided by Sustainable Development Technology Canada and Alberta’s Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation. After successfully demonstrating the technology in the lab, Nsolv teamed up with Suncor Energy in 2012 to put the technology to the test via a pilot project at their Dover lease. The plant produced its 40,000th barrel of oil in early 2015, all the while meeting key performance indicators. With proven technology, Nsolv is now primed for further partnerships, joint ventures and license agreements.
